Thomas McCurtains V Shalloe Pearses 29/04/2014 - Match Report

Final score TMC 0-11 Shalloe Pearses 0-07

McCurtains still reeling from the loss of James "the focal point" Searson through injury, turned up to fortress Goodmayes with a revamped Thomas McCurtains team. We started In Positive fashion against a very strong wind where Phillip Murphy opened the scoring. Jim "The tinkerman" McDermot was at it again when he moved Conor Finnerty from corner forward to wing forward to use his industry and guile. He made an instant impact with a well worked point after some sublime play from James Kelly at wing back to make it 3 points to 1. Chris Hanley dominated in full back like a young James Collins and James Kelly bombed on forward like a..... Eh.... young James Kelly. Barry the sparrow" Mchugh added a further 2 points to bring his tally to 3 points for the half. As the half drew to a close Pearses began to take control and added 4 points in quick succession to make it 5 points a piece at the half. A good half with some great kick outs from dual star Shane Kelly against the wind had an ever ageing Martin Keyes sweating on the sideline.

With some words of encouragement from the management McCurtains made a decent start to the second half, the sparrow was at it again with that wand of a left foot (Harry potter must be shitting himself) and added 2 further points to put McCurtains 2 points to the good. Things started to get nervy when Shane Kelly came into his own with 2 fine saves. Fino added another point with that sublime right foot of his, the one that let him down in the 7's so badly. The ever green Paddy O'Neil aka Benjamin Button was driving the team forward with selfless running. Th Pearses added 2 points which the sparrow McHugh responded to with 2 of his own bringing his tally to 7 for the day and fino added his 3rd registering McCurtains 1st win of the year. Next up is Dulwich in Mitchum with a semi final place up for grabs. A special mention to to Jimmy Keane getting the first black card of the year and in McCurtains history.

Final Score TMC 0-11 Pearses 0-07. The footballers play Dulwich Harps in the 3rd round of the McCardle Cup which will be played Saturday the 05th of April at 3.45pm in Mitcham.

Thomas McCurtain V Tir Chonaill Gaels 23/03/2014 - Match Report

The season began on Sunday as TMC took on TCG in Goodmayes in the first round of the McCardle Cup. After the clud die hards spent all day Saturday preparing the pitch and moving the goalposts there were to be no excuses. 21 players turned out with 3 dual stars and 3 debutants ... It was a Scrappy 1st half but McCurtains with use of the breeze came to life in closing 10 minutes with a couple of scores. James Searson led the way with a sweetly struck point u don't normally associate with the gangly Clare man, Gavin Gallagher with a scrappy Goal which is becoming his trade mark and then a superb finish by the tireless Conor (Fino) in the top corner. He will now be forgiven for his performance in the 7's at his home club st Jude's. Just on the stroke of half time searson who was winning and carrying great ball got injuried. Massive Blow ... From the resulting free Barry struck one of the sweetest frees goodmayes has and will ever see which meant McCurtains were leading at half time. In the Second half McCurtains started strong but unfortunately lost there way, with the aid of a breeze TCG began to take charge. A very dubious penalty was awarded to TCG which they made no mistake from. McDermot as tactically astute as ever introduced fresh blood, Philip Murphy and Paddy Halligan to the forwards and began to look more of a threat going forward. It was a draw game going into the closing minutes but TCG were awarded a free which went over and shortly afterward the ref blew up.

Overall a good team performance with Paddy O'Neil & Micheal O'Leary outstanding in midfield. TMC will now play Shalloe Pearses in the 2nd round which is a must win game in order to have any chance progression.
